The Words that Broke Me

“I hate you!”
Three little words that can break the strongest heart.
I was not prepared for the moment those three words left my baby's mouth.
In that moment, my heart froze as my mind stuttered to a halt.
Pain exploded in my chest, and I could not draw a breath.
That moment shattered the last illusion that my child still saw me as the mother they had always known.
I had carried, loved, and sacrificed everything I had for them.
Yet another’s venomous words had buried the truth behind hatred.
In that moment, I truly felt I had lost them.
To love another is to give them immense power over you, and there is no deeper love than that of a mother for her child.
When my little one uttered those damning words, glaring at me with eyes filled with anger, I felt utterly helpless.
My sweet child.
You are so young, too young to understand what you are doing and the hurt you are inflicting.
But I want you to know that nothing you could ever say or do will ever lessen my love for you.
I will never stop fighting for you. I will never stop protecting you. I will never leave you.
Someday, I pray you will understand.
But no matter what happens, I will always be here, waiting with open arms to welcome you home.
