Where the River Ends

Roaring rapids racing past me,

an apt reflection of the chaos raging within.

As I stood, wind whipping through my hair,

my mind mercilessly replayed all my failures.

My hopeless tears fell,

Yet they brought no relief

from the aching void within me.

I could not see a light to guide me.

My heart had long forgotten how to hope.

There was but one thought in the ruin of my mind.

Some things cannot be fixed

because they were never meant to be.

One last breath to sustain me,

One last glance upward at the beautiful blue sky

Then, I took that final step.

Beneath the raging, icy water

my soul at last surrendered,

and finally, my pain did end.
