Moonlit Surrender

It holds me still in its hypnotic beam.

As I sit, gaze locked upward

My body no longer feels the cold.

Snow gently flurries all around but

I remain quietly still.

Ensnared by its lethal beauty, I sit.

I cannot bear to look away.

A peaceful contentment warms my soul

even as I slowly freeze.

A mournful howl in the distance,

a single tear frozen on my cheek.

I do not even realize it is the end

as I am claimed by endless sleep.
